Levels of Access¶
Levels of access include:
- Read-Only Staff Search - no need to log in
- Privileged Access to perform many varying functions related to the management of Staff and Guest access to the DoE Network - must log in to see this access
Read-Only Staff Search¶
The Default view of SMU is DEC Statewide Staff Search which displays basic identity details of DoE and TAFE employees, eg. DEC User ID, Business location and email address.
Note – All DoE and TAFE Staff have access to this Read-Only version of SMU.
Privileged Access¶
Staff can be given access to perform SMU functions other than the general Staff Search. Staff must be logged into SMU to use Privileged access.
- Access to use SMU at a specific site by staff employed at that site is granted and revoked through AMU. This ability is currently available for School Principals and/or their delegates. This functionality allows authorised staff to:
- Reset Staff Passwords at a single site (staff member’s own site)
- View Password Synchronisation reports
- Manage (add and remove) Casual school staff registration at their site. Also, new Casual staff accounts can be activated for the first time by using this option.

- A Service Desk Incident must be logged for all other levels of access:
- Reset DEC User IDs and passwords for Staff and Teacher Applicants
- Multiple School sites or a TAFE region
- All State Office access
- Statewide Access
- View SAP Employee IDs tab
- View School Teacher Applicants
- Manage Non-Government staff
- Manage HPERC library access
- Manage Contractors and Guest access
- Manage Guest Student access
Important
Privileged users only - be aware that the DoE proxy will log you out of SMU after 30 minutes of inactivity. To re-access SMU privileged version you will need to log back in.
